Cora

This is 10 1/2 month old Cora and she was diagnosed last Friday, January 23 with cancer – stage 4 Neuroblastoma. My wife and her family grew up with Cora’s dad, Joel. In addition, Cora’s grandpa was a favorite high school teacher of both Heidi and I, and continue to be friends of our family. Will you please pray for this little girl. She started chemo today and the next few days are very critical for her.

You can read about her story at here and here.

Hallmark

Hallmark Hall of Fame.

Did you know I love these? Finally something good on. And those commercials during the movies, from Hallmark, get me all choked up. Especially the ones now that feature an employee of Hallmark and why they write/create the cards they do. I am a sucker for the HHoF everytime. And I am not talking about the Cable channel, I don’t know how it works. I am talking about over the air, broadcast, Sunday night movies. The way it was meant to be.

And, while we are on it, I don’t mind Thomas Kincaide either. Deal with it. Yea, yea I like all the indie, cool, rock, messy, to good for you stuff too. People say TK is a sell out and not a real artist and yada yada. Well, it doesn’t bother me. No, I don’t have one in my house (my ego won’t allow it). But I will stick up of for him. He paints what he wants. He paints what is real to him. Just the same as every New York (Westport, KC) starving artist type with half a shaved head and doesn’t live anywhere (they only “stay” places) does. He has just made it and you haven’t.

And which of you haven’t wanted to be “in” one of his paintings for just a second. Buried away in one of his snow covered, fireplace glowing cabins deep in some secluded woods. Painter of light, baby.

Oh, back to Hallmark for a sec. I still to this day turn over every card I get and check to see if it is a hallmark card or not. Slight dissapointment each time it is not. (Advertising at work–another great thing about them.)

Hero

One of my modern day heroes, Marc Driscoll.

Are you aloud to have heroes? Is it only supposed to be Jesus? What if he falls, fails or screws something up? I don’t know and I don’t care, he is a hero of mine right now. And I’ve got others. From Ray Kroc to Andy Griffith to John Piper. But today Marc Driscoll.

Check out the video here about Pastor Marc on ABC news.

Signature

Ok, sigs as promised.

I tell people all the time. Your signature does NOT have to match your name! It is your mark. Your unique identity. So when you are at the bank and your signing 50 pages worth of loan stuff and the loan guy keeps reminding you, “make sure you sign it just like your name appears…if there is a middle initial or not or whatever…” Seriously? You want me to fake my actual signature so it looks like the name you have typed above. So then when it goes all legal someday they (you know the man…whoever) can say, “look it isn’t even his signature!” and they take your house away.

I am telling you, you can sign a big x if that is your mark on this world. It is yours. It is personal. You don’t have to change it for the banks or whoever. It is a signature. Not necessarily a copy of your name. It doesn’t have to legible, it doesn’t have to be anything. Just you.

Change3

Well, it begins.

Now, how long on the FOCA? Maybe President Obama didn’t quite mean the “first” thing he does in office.

How many “change” posts before everyone is completely turned off? But it is only fair, I have mentioned before how I for one am in favor of “watch dog” organizations/websites. Even though I know us young Christians (sorry Christ-followers) are supposed to think those are uncool now.

Maybe next week we can get to one of my promised rants, how about . . . “How your signature does not have to match your name.”

Roe

Did you know this stuff?

Good thing change is on our side now.

Change2

“The first thing I’d do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act.”

We will see. Will he do it, tick off all the right and show he is not actually moderate. Or not do it and be like every politician before him. Say one thing and do another.

I say he will do the latter. I think the left really doesn’t care if he does it or not. They won’t hold him accountable. So that is his safer play.

I say it will be very telling of who he is as a man. Truth be told if he wants to be the “great” man that many think, he MUST sign it. Have some integrity. Do what you say. Of course, I will like you less in terms of policy than ever, but at least you could prove me wrong about how I view the left.

But we will see. Tomorrow begins the FOCA watch. We will count the days to see if it really is “the first thing” he does.

Change

Awesome.

It looks like the change we were promised is already here! Can’t wait to see what is next.

Concert

Ok, three today. Whatever.

The elementary school winter musical.

I know I am supposed to like these and be supportive and think they all look cute and be proud and all, but have you been to one lately . . .
